‘Mister Champions League’

Carlo Ancelotti has made his mark in Real Madrid’s history at this first season at the club. The dream of winning their 10th Champions League title was dearly coveted by Madrid fans and the Italian coach was certain that they could meet the challenge.

Calmly and without fanfare, the coach was able to prepare his team for their ultimate challenge and achieve an outcome that will be long remembered in football history: 24th of May 2014 a game in which Atlético de Madrid (4-1), had the title in their hands until the 93rd minute. A header from Ramos made the impossible possible and he took the match to extra time 'in extremis' where Real Madrid proved to be in better form and made a magic night against one of the most dangerous rivals ever remembered.??

This is a title that will enhance Real Madrid’s legend, they are Kings of Europe with 10 trophies, but this will also be historical for Ancelotti . He has won his third Champions League as a coach after winning with Milan in 2003 and 2007. His success now equals Bob Paisley’s record, being the best coach with the greatest amount of awards. If this wasn’t enough, we should also add that Ancelotti is the fifth coach to win the Champions with two different teams, as did Miguel Muñoz having won five Champions League as a coach and a player.??

With this Champions League win over Atletico in Lisbon, Ancelotti has also broken Real Madrid’s “doblete” curse in which the team did not win two of the three most important titles (League, Cup and Champions) in a single season for 25 years. Not since 1988-1989 when the Welshman John Benjamin Toshak won the League and the King’s Cup for Real Madrid. The Italian coach therefore becomes the first coach to win the King’s Cup and the Champions League for Real Madrid in one single season. Ancelotti, without a doubt, has written his name with capital letters on Real Madrid's legend, the club with the largest collection of trophies in the World.
